The International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) is pleased to release today that Confederação Brasileira de Desportos dos Surdos (CBDS) has been selected by ICSD and confirmed to win the bidding of the 24th Summer Deaflympics in respect of the following city and dates: Caxias do Sul, Brazil on 05-21 December 2021.
ICSD wants to congratulate CBDS and our team for the work that they have put into to ensure that we were able to secure Summer Deaflympics in 2021.
Logistics information:
Airport: Salgado Filho International Airport, in Porto Alegre (120 km away). It is possible to reach this airport with a direct flight from Portugal or other countries in Central and South America.
In the case of non-direct flight, where the entry is made in other states such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and others. It is also possible to connect the airports of São Paulo (CGH and VCP) directly to the Hugo Cantergiani Regional Airport in Caxias do Sul.
The first Deaflympics, known as the “International Silent Games”, were held in the summer of 1924 in Paris, and later on these Deaf Games were held every four years with a break during the World War Two. The Winter Deaflympics were first held in Austria in 1949. From 1924 to the present day, the ICSD has organized 23 Summer and 18 Winter Deaflympics in a year following the year of the Olympic Games.
